We missed you at the meeting on Tues., June 15! Here are some highlights:
- Member firm, University of Phoenix, and executive, Nan MacIsaac, threw open the doors and rolled out the red carpet for our ASIST scholarship awards luncheon!
- The reserved tables for our scholarship winners had centerpieces created with logo items from their colleges and linens with the school colors.
- President Lourdes Navarro, eIRONclad, called the meeting to order. Judy Lawton, CEO & Founder of TLC Staffing led the Pledge of Allegiance and read an inspiring poem, ‘Empowered Woman’ by Sunny Carroll.
- New member firm, Continental Catering, served a beautifully presented Mexican cuisine luncheon.
- Nan MacIsaac, delivered a fascinating presentation on 21st Century Education. She talked about what needs to be done to our education system to teach K-12 students what they need to prepare for the future. Education is definitely moving out of the ‘traditional classroom’ and into cyberspace with online learning via computers and mobile devices. An educated world is a better world.
- Pat Evans, San Diego Convention Center Corp., and BCDP Chair, gave us an overview of the ASIST program. She thanked the following member firms for their generous sponsorship: $2,000 from San Diego Air & Space Technology Center and $1,000 from Sempra Energy.
- Darlene Banogon, North Island Credit Union, was recognized for her four years of service on the corporate board – this year’s ASIST scholarship awards were presented as the “Darlene Banogon Service Awards 2010.”
- The three ASIST judges were introduced: Nan MacIsaac, University of Phoenix, Rachel Laing, Deputy Press Secretary to City of San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders; Trisha Yamauchi, Assistant Deputy Chief United States Probation Officer for the Southern District of California.
- The three scholarship honorees each received $2,060 – the ‘60’ in recognition of our chapter’s 60th anniversary. Each honoree read their essay.
- Nan MacIsaac introduced Rhonda Hardey – she is attending Mesa College to complete prerequisites for the Master’s Entry Program in Nursing. She advances to EWI Corporate ASIST program competition for an additional scholarship of $2,500.
- Rachel Laing introduced Norell Martinez – she is attending UCSD pursuing a Doctorate program in Ethnic Studies or Literature with a career goal to teach college level students.
- Trisha Yamauchi introduced Adele Stratton – she is attending San Diego City College and will transfer to SDSU for a degree in psychology and a PhD in neuropsychology.
- A BIG round of applause concluded the meeting on a high note!
