October Meeting Recap

Hello EWI of San Diego!  If you weren’t able to join us for the October Chapter Meeting & Board Installation at The Handlery, we are sorry to have missed you…

First things first:

We had planned for a quick business meeting this evening, but did not have a quorum.  It was decided the minutes from our August 21, 2018 Chapter business meeting can be approved at the next business meeting.  The minutes were mailed to membership on October 10, but I am also attaching them here for your perusal ahead of time.  Also, attached is the projected budget for the 2018-2019 year (which was also e-mailed to membership October 10, 2018).  Please reply with any corrections and your ‘yay’ or ‘nay’ vote byFriday, October 26, 2018.

Welcome Regina Brown: We got an opportunity to hear from our newest member, Regina Brown of the San Diego Airport Authority.  Please be sure to introduce yourself to her at the next meeting!

EWISP Recipient: We were delighted to meet and hear from Jessica Denny, our EWISP recipient.  Jessica is a very bright, young woman currently attending UCSD, majoring in Bio-Chemistry, with aspirations to work in Dermatology and possibly working in the same field for Doctors Without Borders.

Board Installation: Outgoing President, April Hall, called up the 2017-2018 Board and thanked everyone for their hard work in helping to keep EWI San Diego a Chapter of Excellence this year.  Karen Spencer then called up the 2018-2019 Board of Directors to install them and asked them to focus on “Keeping it Simple” this year.  April then passed the gavel to newly installed Holly Stephenson, and she gave her acceptance speech.

2018-2019 Focus Points:  The Board focus this year is on increasing/maintaining Membership, asking more members of the Chapter to join committees and reintroducing the Reading Rally to our Literacy program.

Special thanks: Programs Director, Colette Morel of Manpower, for securing The Handlery for the Installation, Kristy Weinzimer of Flowers by Coley for the beautiful floral centerpieces, The Handlery staff for a great meal and service, Ignacio De La Torre of AT&T for joining to support Holly Stephenson’s Installation.
