July Meeting Recap

Hello EWI of San Diego Members –

Roy’s – La Jolla proved to be the perfect place for our July EWI of San Diego Chapter meeting.   Thank you to our Programs Committee of Colette Morel, Manpower and Rachel Prochnow, Hilton Garden Inn (who was with us in spirit) for organizing this event.  For those of you who were unable to attend, we missed you!

Our EWISP scholarship winner was announced, Jessica Denny.   Jessica is out of town until the beginning of the school year.  Instead of spending her limited funds on flying back just for last night’s meeting, the board agreed it would be better to introduce her at our October Chapter meeting.  She does, however relay her sincere gratitude!

After our delicious dinner we heard from Jose Cruz, CEO of the San Diego Council on Literacy.  Jose enlightened us to the problems of adult illiteracy, something I was unaware of.  Many adults have graduated from high school and even college with a 3rd grade or lower literacy IQ.  We heard how the lack of childhood education can linger far into adulthood with no-one recognizing the need and those affected  too ashamed to get help.  It was a very touching and informative presentation.

Following Jose’s program Joy Malaise, Promise2kids announced the theme of our August fundraiser and raffle  –  “Planes, Trains, & Automobiles…..and Boats” .   The Board will be putting together the raffle grand prize baskets (each valued at over $400).  Next week we will have more information on the fundraiser and Raffle Tickets that will be ready for members to sell to all their colleagues, friends and family, Stay Tuned….

Thank you all who were able to attend last night and continue to support our organization.  Hope to see you at our next Chapter Meeting,  August 21st, at La Gran Terraza for our Annual Fundraiser.
