April Meeting Recap

Hello EWI of San Diego Members –

What a wonderful evening for our April EWI of San Diego Chapter/Business meeting at the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley.   Thank you to our Programs Committee of Colette Morel, Manpower and Rachel Prochnow, Hilton Garden Inn for organizing this event.  For those of you who were unable to attend, we missed you!

It was a pleasure to welcome our newest member firm University of San Diego. We were introduced to the University’s Executive and Representative, Jennifer Simpson, Director of Conferences.  Jennifer spoke a little about herself and her role as Director of Conferences.  We look forward to many years of friendship and comradery with Jennifer.

After our delicious dinner we jumped right into the business meeting.  Minutes from the October 2017 business meeting were approved and Co–Treasurer Laura Machado, Marine Group Boat Works updated us on our current budget and financial status.

The EWI 101 presentation put on by our very own Board and Committee members followed.

I began the presentation by addressing EWI’s Mission Statement, Value and Goals.  Anna McCutchen,  San Diego Theaters followed by describing how Lucille Johnson Perkins founded our organization and how it has evolved to where we are today.

Next Pat Evans, San Diego Convention Center and Jamie Fleming, Fleming & Associates described our Scholarship Initiatives.  They explained the process of the obtaining scholarship applicants, the judging process and the selection of winners.  They also touched on how our scholarships have changed the lives of many recipients.  Fundraising Chair Joy Malaise, Promise2kids was up next and gave us some history of our accomplishments on money raised by our generous members and how that equates to us being able to continue with our scholarship and literacy initiatives.  Darlene Banogon, North Island Credit Union followed by updating us on corporate operations, LCAM, leadership resources and the connections EWI offers. The presentation continued with Katie Mendoza,  Jacobo Realty providing us with information on EWI’s “MIC”  – Membership Information Center.  She detailed how to update our profiles on the Corporate website and how using MIC can connect you to resources throughout EWI’s network.  She also showed our social media presence and how our EWI Connect can be used as a tool to advertise our firms.  Our programs committeeColette Morel, Manpower and Raechel Prochnow, Hilton Garden Inn followed by explaining the process of how venues and speakers are chosen.  They also touched on some of the challenges which are more involved by house cleaning service they face, with the goal always to provide a fun, interesting and memorable event.    Karen Spencer, Flagship Cruises and Events reviewed the various Board and Committee positions and the importance of serving in any capacity.  In closing Holly Stephenson. AT&T did a little plug for candidates for the 18-19  board and committee members.

It was a very informative presentation which I hope all members new and old benefited from.  Job well done ladies!
